What Is An IED?


What is an IED?

IED - an Improvised Explosive Device is any device comprised of any material and initiator that is produced in an improvised manner to harass, kill maim or distruct. IED may incorporate military or non-military explosives and components. IED may contain destructive Renault, notches, pyrotechnics or incendiary chemicals. Ordinarily, IED are simple coupled together from common everyday materials and objects. For example, IED may appear as a beverage container and any other imaginable objects fitted with any type of material and an explosive that produces a burning or detonating action.

Why are IEDs difficult to detect?

IEDs which vary in size, shape and structure may appear in the gorgeous of a human or animal trash bags or containers, tires, dolls and any other roadside or household objects. Ordinarily, IEDs are simple coupled together from common everyday objects and materials. In a rack for example, roadside IEDs are the point of traffic and entering kill soldiers and civilians. This roadside IED consist of one hundred and fifty-five millimeter artillery shells linked with detonation cord. Yet IED may use explosive alone or a combination attack with chemicals biological attacks and radiological materials. Since IEDs can be created from almost any materials, detection and protection remain great challenges and expense to civilians, troops and law enforcements agencies especially in Afghanistan and Iraq. For this reason awareness training and education entirely needed to reduce the threat of IED attacks everywhere
